Mark has worked on a number of Uniting Aged Care projects, from small CDC works to large scale CC works involving medium rise Independent Living Units alongside large residential aged care building projects. Mark worked in the early stages of each project so as to bring into the design, as early as possible ideas to the client and design team of fire safety strategies, performance based designs and value-engineered designs that would result not only in cost savings, but flexibility in the projects design and construction stages. Mark worked closely with the Client as well as building managers on existing buildings and the architects and services team members in developing the holistic fire safety design for the projects.
Key features as part of the design was the review of the classification of each building in conjunction with the PCA and required fire safety measures as well as management and maintenance requirements. The fire safety documentation included FEB and FERs looked at the rationalisation of the fire separation, progressive horizontal evacuation strategies, extended travel distances and smoke hazard management systems, all adding significant cost savings to the project.
